Alkator Syrup contains Disodium Hydrogen Citrate, used to treat urinary tract infections, kidney stones, urinary acidosis, and gout.
Description
Alkator Syrup contains Disodium Hydrogen Citrate, a medicine mainly used for the treatment of urinary tract infections, painful or difficult urination, kidney stones, urinary acidosis and gout.
Composition
Each 5 ml contains:
- Disodium Hydrogen Citrate B.P. 1.25 g
- In a flavored syrupy base q.s.
Mechanism of Action
Disodium hydrogen citrate is metabolized to bicarbonates, which increase urinary pH by increasing the excretion of free bicarbonate ions, without producing systemic alkalosis at recommended doses. A rise in urinary pH increases the solubility of cystine in the urine and the ionization of uric acid to more soluble urate ion, so that by maintaining an alkaline urine, actual dissolution of uric acid stones may be accomplished.

Used in the treatment of urinary tract infection and kidney stones.
Dosage

Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, tiredness.
Contraindications
Kidney dysfunction, high blood pressure, fluid accumulation in the body.
