Composition
Each film-coated tablet contains:
- Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride I.P. 500 mg
- Excipients q.s.
Mechanism of Action
Ciprofloxacin is a second-generation fluoroquinolone active against many Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. It acts through inhibition of bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, binding to bacterial DNA gyrase with 100 times the affinity of mammalian DNA gyrase.
Indications
Cipromac-500 tablet is commonly used to treat various bacterial infections, including urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, gastrointestinal infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections.
Dosage
As prescribed by the physician.
Side Effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, redness or discomfort in the eye, bad taste in the mouth, abdominal pain.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other quinolones. Generally not recommended for pregnant women, nursing mothers, or children, unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
Drug Interactions
Should not be taken with antiarrhythmics, diabetes medicines (metformin, sulfonylurea), theophylline, warfarin, dairy products, medications or supplements containing Mg, Al, Ca, Fe or Zn, duloxetine, caffeine, zolpidem, or tizanidine, due to severe side effects.
Precautions
Should be used with caution in patients with a history of tendon disorders, seizures, or other certain pre-existing conditions.
