Gencin-B eye/ear drops is a medication that combines the anti-inflammatory effects of betamethasone, with the antibacterial actions of gentamicin. This combination is used to treat various inflammatory eye or ear conditions, such as infections or allergies, by reducing inflammation and controlling bacterial growth.

Each ml contains:
- Gentamicin sulphate equ to gentamicin base (3000 units/ml) IP 0.3% w/v
- Betamethasone sodium phosphate IP 0.1% w/v
- Benzalkonium chloride Solution (as preservative) IP 0.02% w/v
- Sterile aqueous buffered vehicle q.s.
Mechanism of Action
The bactericidal action of gentamicin is based on an irreversible inhibition of the bacterial protein synthesis. Gentamicin elicits rapid bacterial action by acting directly on the bacterial ribosome, where it disrupts the normal cycle of ribosomal function. Additionally, gentamicin includes misreading the genetic code of the mRNA template, leading to the incorporation of incorrect amino acids into the growing polypeptide chain. Betamethasone sodium phosphate is a potent glucocorticoid steroid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties.

Use the solution within one month after opening the container.
Side Effects
Eye stinging/burning/redness or temporary blurred vision may occur, raised intraocular pressure.
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to gentamicin or any ingredient in the formulation & patients with fungal infections.
Drug Interactions
Other drugs, especially those that affect the kidneys, can interact with gentamicin resulting in dangerous side effects and/or decreased effectiveness. Do not take any other prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal products, without first talking to your doctor during treatment with gentamicin.
Warning
If irritation persists or increases, discontinue the use and consult the physician. Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface as this may contaminate the solution.
