Hemoplus Syrup combines ferric ammonium citrate, vitamin B12 and B6, folic acid, and zinc to treat iron deficiency anaemia and related nutritional deficiencies.
Description
Hemoplus Syrup is a balanced combination of ferric ammonium citrate, one of the best-tolerated iron supplements, together with Vitamin B12 and B6 for red blood cell production, and folic acid and zinc, vital for DNA synthesis.
Composition
Each 15 ml contains:
- Ferric Ammonium Citrate (eq. to Elemental Iron 41 mg) I.P. 200 mg
- Cyanocobalamin I.P. 7.5 mcg
- Pyridoxine Hydrochloride I.P. 1.5 mg
- Folic Acid I.P. 0.5 mg
- Zinc Sulphate I.P. 7 mg
- Sorbitol solution I.P. 750 mg
Mechanism of Action
Ferric ammonium citrate is well tolerated and rapidly supplements elemental iron, quickly controlling iron deficiency and correcting anaemia. Folic acid, biochemically inactive on its own, is converted to tetrahydrofolic acid and methyltetrahydrofolate by dihydrofolate reductase in the liver.
Indications
Iron deficiency anaemia, pregnancy anaemia, lactation, loss of appetite, general weakness and convalescence.
Dosage
As prescribed by the physician.
Side Effects
Nausea, regurgitation, constipation, pyrosis, upset stomach may occur with hematinics. Iron may cause stools to turn black, an effect that is not harmful; GI effects can be reduced by taking with food.
Contraindications
Peptic ulcer, regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis, hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis, hemolytic anaemia, and all anaemias other than iron deficiency.
Precautions
Oral iron may aggravate existing peptic ulcers, regional enteritis, and ulcerative colitis.
