Mycomin-Plus capsule combines Mecobalamin, Alpha Lipoic Acid, and folic acid to support patients with elevated homocysteine, on dialysis, or with inadequate dietary vitamin intake.
Description
Mycomin-Plus capsule is a dietary supplement combining vitamins and folic acid to meet nutritional requirements for patients with high blood homocysteine levels, those on dialysis, or those not receiving adequate vitamins from their diet.
Composition
Each capsule contains:
- Mecobalamin 1500 mcg
- Alpha Lipoic Acid U.S.P. 100 mg
- Thiamine Mononitrate I.P. 10 mg
- Folic Acid I.P. 1.5 mg
- Pyridoxine Hydrochloride I.P. 3 mg
Mechanism of Action
Mecobalamin, the active form of vitamin B12, acts as a coenzyme in several metabolic pathways, and its deficiency interferes with haemopoiesis. Alpha Lipoic Acid is a cofactor in vital energy-producing reactions in the body. Folic Acid is reduced to tetrahydrofolate, a coenzyme for various metabolic processes. Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, a water-soluble B vitamin, helps the body convert carbohydrates into glucose for energy. Biotin (Vitamin B8) supports normal fat and protein metabolism.
Indications
Indicated to strengthen the immune system, support nerve stimulation in diabetic neuropathy, provide prophylactic therapy for vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and promote overall well-being.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any ingredients of the medication; patients with abnormal kidney function.
Side Effects
Drowsiness, headache, mild diarrhoea, nausea, rash, and itching.
Drug Interactions
Folic acid may reduce the effectiveness of levodopa, though this antagonism is avoided if a carbidopa/levodopa combination is used.
