Torliptin VM 500 contains Vildagliptin, a member of the islet enhancer class, is a potent and selective DPP-4 inhibitor and Metformin, a biguanide with antihyperglycaemic effects, lowering both basal and postprandial plasma glucose.

Each film-coated tablet contains:
- Vildagliptin I.P. 50 mg
- Metformin Hydrochloride I.P. 500 mg
- Excipients q.s.
Mechanism of Action:
Vildagliptin results in a rapid and complete inhibition of DPP-4 activity, resulting in increased fasting and postprandial endogenous levels of the incretin hormones GLP1 (glucagon-like peptide 1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide). Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
Indications:
Torliptin VM 500 is indicated for the treatment of patients with type II diabetes mellitus when diet, exercise and single agent does not result in adequate glycemic control.

Contraindications:
Torliptin VM 500 is contraindicated in patients with: Known hypersensitivity to Vildaglitin, Metformin, or any of the components of this product. Any type of acute metabolic acidosis (such as lactic acidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis), diabetic pre-coma, severe renal failure (GFR < 30 ml/min), acute conditions with the potential to alter renal function, such as dehydration, severe infection, shock, and intravascular administration of iodinated contrast agents. Acute or chronic disease which may cause tissue hypoxia, such as: cardiac or respiratory failure, recent myocardial infarction, shock, hepatic impairment, acute alcohol intoxication, alcoholism, breast-feeding.
